After 24 years, Cameroon finally held regional elections in early December as provided by its constitution. However, the elections – much like with all political processes in the country – lacked legitimacy as they were boycotted by the opposition and marred by violent attacks. The elections may also be aimed at placating donors and credit partners as Cameroon continues to face debt sustainability risks and will require further support into 2021.
