After a deep contraction in 2020, Saudi Arabia’s economy is on a recovery path as new COVID-19 cases have stabilised at manageable levels, global conditions improve, and the national vaccination program gains momentum. But weak global demand for oil and uncertainty regarding the evolution of the pandemic will constrain the pace of economic recovery, meaning that economic output is unlikely to be restored to pre-pandemic levels until 2022.
