SPECIAL REPORT: THE REGIONAL IMPLICATIONS OF THE SUDAN CONFLICT

Fighting between the military and paramilitary forces continue in Sudan despite attempts by regional and international powers to bring the warring sides to a ceasefire. The ongoing confrontations not only undermine stability in Sudan, but also poses grave risks to the wider region. Bordering seven countries, Sudan influences and is influenced by the dynamics of the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, and the Sahel. As the domestic situation rapidly deteriorates, there is a real potential for further meddling from external actors, which could drag in neighbouring countries, and ultimately undermine regional stability.
