The coming month will see a heightened threat of unrest in Angola, Central African Republic, Gabon, Kenya, Mauritania, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey and Zimbabwe. In Ghana, the government has increased a security deployment to the northern border with Burkina Faso following another security incident in the town of Bawku. Cameroon has similarly announced a redeployment of security forces to the border with Central African Republic and Nigeria in response to heightened rebel and Islamist militant activity. In Iran, a countrywide labour strike by oil and gas, energy, and steel workers is gaining momentum, while heavy fighting between the military and paramilitary forces in Sudan has spread to multiple major cities. Finally, there is a heightened threat of continued protests across the MENA region at the start of May to mark International Workers’ Day.
