ANGOLA: MPLA ELECTION WIN BOOSTS ECONOMIC PROSPECTS AND MITIGATES CONTRACT RISKS

   Mon, 29 August 2022

Angola’s energy fuelled and IMF anchored economic recovery is boosted by the ruling party’s election victory this month that will assure policy stability for incoming investors. The prospect of violence is partially mitigated by slowing inflation and loosening monetary policy, although the incoming government will need to refocus on employment boosting initiatives to prevent further outbreaks of unrest. The trajectory of the government’s anti-corruption stance is in doubt following a suspected political deal with a marginalised faction in the ruling party that would slow prosecutions and drive persistent contract and reputational risks going forward.
