Anti-government unrest is unlikely to pose a serious threat to political stability, while protests are likely to subside as the military is deployed and anti-terrorism laws are implemented by the ruling junta. Outbreaks of civil unrest are also less likely to cause disruption to mining operations, which are boosting Guinea’s economic performance. Yet, a shrinking current account surplus and rising budget deficit, as well as greater spending needs on military hardware, are driving heightened contract risks in the mining sector.
