Based on EXX Africa’s risk scoring methodology, Mozambique is set to achieve a notable improvement in its country risk rating in 2020 as the economy recovers, new gas investments start to flow, and a fragile peace deal is upheld. However, there remain serious challenges to such a trajectory, including unfolding corruption scandals, authoritarian government action, a lingering lending dispute, and an intensifying Islamist insurgency in the north.
