Under a US-brokered deal, Sudan will be able to clear its arrears to international financial institutions, receive new credit lines, and seek HIPC debt relief, as well as promote key sectors for international investment. A newly emboldened transitional government will count on US support to begin to dismantle military dominance over the economy and to strengthen Sudan’s stance in disputes with neighbouring Ethiopia.
