The US and EU may consider minor targeted sanctions if the opposition remains repressed after the contested January ballot, but a deterioration in the investment climate or an end to the counterterrorism alliance is currently unlikely. In his sixth term in office, Uganda’s president will steer the country toward oil production which is anticipated to boost the annual economic growth rate to ten percent within four years.
